UPDATE!

Thank you to the more than 200 people who participated in this survey as a result of MCC’s release!

May our experiences and our perspectives serve to broaden the wealth of information being collected on our behalf.

~ MCC Moderator’s Corner

Dear Members and Friends of MCC:

I am delighted for MCC to partner with the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the National Center for Transgender Equality. This is how we will make real, substantive change in
our country and in the world, how we will “tear down walls and build up hope.”

Let me encourage you to take just a few minutes of your time today and take the first national survey of discrimination against transgender and gender non-conforming people!  The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the National Center for Transgender Equality have launched a survey that will be used to argue for better policies and laws to protect transgender people. Once assembled, the data is going to be analyzed by a team of researchers, including researchers who are transgender, and put into a report which will also be available as a free download on the Task Force’s website so that any organization can use the data to advocate and organize.

The survey is now closed!

Believe me, good data and activism go hand in hand!! It is important to be able to make the case for transgender inclusion based on the real lives and experiences of real people. We need your help and cooperation today.

If you have questions about the survey itself, please feel free to contact Somjen Frazer at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (sfrazer@thetaskforce.org) or Justin Tanis at the National Center for Transgender Equality (jtanis@nctequality.org)

Don’t delay your participation!  Take the survey now!

Can you participate if you’re Canadian?

Thanks for asking this, Asher.

The survey introduction does have the following statement: “You are invited to participate in a research project regarding transgender and gender non-conforming people in the United States. Your responses will be part of an important report on transgender people’s experiences of discrimination in housing, employment, health care and education.”

Based on this, I can only assume that they are seeking feedback specifically within the United States. My understanding is that this is a joint effort first to gain real-time data for upcoming inclusive ENDA (Employment Non-Discrimination Act) legislation in the U.S. Second, but just as important, I believe this survey is also hoping to gather general information about transgender and gender non-conforming communities in the States.

Thanks for your interest in completing the survey! Perhaps MCC Transgender Ministries can undertake a survey similar to this in the near future which includes all of MCC’s world membership to best inform our upcoming resources and needs regarding transgender/gender non-conformity, life/social situations and our faith(s).

I’ll certainly mention it!

Blessings,
-Mel

I continue to pray for those who struggle with identifying with thier God given gender. It is upsetting and frustrating to not identify with the sex God gave, yet desiring a sexual relationship outside of a one man and one woman marriage. Although the bible may be twisted to say that same sex marriage is OK, there is no sound biblical doctrine to support such beliefs. Of course God gave us each the right to choose. We still have the option to choose wrong. Just as we can choose to steal, lie or cheat, we can choose to have sexual relationships that are inappropriate and therefore find ourselves living in sin and in denial. I love God’s people and I desire more than anything for them to come to the knowledge of truth in Christ Jesus and righteousness, no matter how long it takes. We all have sinned and come short of the glory but we can all eventually find our way back. God bless you all as you open your hearts to be led by God’s word and may he direct your path!

Greetings, Nancy, et. al….

I have known about this survey for a time now, but have not participated until today. I am glad to see MCC participating in this effort, and will pass the info along to encourage more participation. Some friends have already done this survey, but I’ll try to rangle up a few more!

In Peace & Justice,

Alec
